Joseph Langer emigrated to the United States. He sailed alone from Antwerp aboard the S.S. Belgenland on 23 August 1923 and landed at Ellis Island on 2 September, aged 28, recorded as a merchant, last residence Nawsie, naming a cousin — Samuel Samul of Brzostek — as his nearest relative at home. He declared his intention in Brooklyn on 2 October 1923, petitioned for naturalisation on 9 January 1929, and was naturalised that year. Rose and their two children followed in 1929, six years after him: Harry, born in Brzostek on 11 November 1920, and Anna, born 22 December 1921 — both after this birth register closes in 1917. The United States census of April 1930 records the household in Brooklyn: Joseph, 34, salesman in a fruit store; Rose, 33; Harry, 8; and Florence, 7, who is Anna. In April 1942 he registered for the draft at 1418 East 4th Street, Brooklyn, aged 47, giving his birthplace as Brzostek.
